Are your health and fitness goals slipping away this summer?

If you’re over 40, trying to juggle vacations, family, work, and daily life—you’re not alone. Summer tends to disrupt even the most disciplined routines. But that doesn’t mean your goals need to get left behind.

I’m Coach Brad Linder, founder of Get You In Shape, and more importantly—a dad to 7, a business owner, and someone who lives the summer chaos. Trust me: it doesn’t slow down… it ramps up.

But after 15+ years coaching busy adults just like you, I’ve learned this:
You don’t need the perfect schedule—you just need the right strategy.

Let’s dive into 5 simple, battle-tested hacks to stay fit this summer—even with a full plate.

✅ 1. Reconnect With Your WHY (“Your So That”)

Saying “I want to lose weight” isn’t enough.

What drives real change is why you want it.
At Get You In Shape, we call this your “So That” Statement:

  • “I want to lose weight so that I have energy to play with my kids.”

  • “So that I can be God’s light to others.”

  • “So that I stay healthy and strong for my future grandkids.”

These reasons guide your choices—the choice to eat better, to move your body, and to show up when motivation fades.

Your challenge: Write down 3 powerful “so that” statements.
Post them somewhere visible and let them drive your decisions daily.

🕒 2. Use Fasting + Fuel with Protein, Fiber & Water

Nutrition doesn’t need to be complex.

Here’s what I recommend:
Stop eating 3 hours before bed, and then skip breakfast the next morning. This simple intermittent fasting strategy gives your digestion a rest and helps reduce morning food decisions.

When you do eat?
Stick to this formula:
Protein + Fiber + Water

Think:

  • Hard-boiled eggs and an apple

  • Protein shake and almonds

  • Chicken wrap and veggies

Consistency over perfection—that’s the game changer. Keep your meals simple and repeatable. Hydrate constantly. Boring and consistent beats complicated and unsustainable every time.

🗓️ 3. Schedule Movement Like a Business Meeting

If it’s not on your calendar, it’s not happening.

Health is a priority—so treat it like one.
Block off time for workouts the same way you do for meetings or client calls.

Even 15 to 30 minutes counts.
A short walk, a bodyweight circuit, or just stretching can reset your body and mind.

The win isn’t in how long you work out—it’s that you keep showing up.

🔁 4. Progress Over Perfection

Summer’s not going to be perfect.

You’ll miss workouts. You’ll eat the burger. You’ll have days that feel off the rails.

Here’s the rule:
Miss one? Don’t miss two.

Slip up at the BBQ? No guilt—just reset the next meal.

You don’t need to be flawless—you just need to be consistent.

It’s not the perfect plan that changes your life.
It’s the one you actually follow.
