How to Lose 5 to 10 Pounds This December Without Giving Up Holiday Foods
December is the month most people gain weight.
Between parties, travel, Christmas treats, and a packed schedule, it is easy to drift and tell yourself, “I will get back on track in January.”
But what if this year you did the opposite?
What if you finished December feeling lighter, stronger, and more confident?
The truth is, you can lose 5 to 10 pounds this month without giving up your favorite holiday foods. You just need a simple plan that fits real life during the holidays.
Here are the six habits I coach my clients to follow every December.
1. Get Your WHYs in Front of You
Your WHYs are your anchors.
They remind you why your health matters on the days when motivation dips or life gets busy.
Write them down. Put them on your fridge, your bathroom mirror, or the lock screen on your phone.
My WHYs this season are clear:
I want energy for my 7 kids, I want to be present, and I want to be God’s light to others.
Your WHYs guide your choices when it feels easier to slip back into old patterns. When your WHY is strong, your choices get easier.
2. Follow the 90 10 Rule
You do not need to be perfect.
You only need to be consistent.
There are 31 days in December. If you stay on track 90 percent of the time, you will absolutely make progress.
That means you can enjoy the parties, the holiday dinners, and the special treats.
Your progress will come from the majority of the days where you keep your routine simple and steady.
Consistency beats perfection every time.
3. Move More Than Ever
Most people eat more and move less in December.
You are going to flip that.
Set a step goal and hit it every day.
Eight thousand. Ten thousand. Twelve thousand.
Whatever fits your current fitness level and schedule.
Movement keeps your metabolism active, helps manage cravings, lowers stress, and gives you momentum when everything else is busy.
Even if your workouts are shorter, your steps can carry the load.
4. Keep Your Weekday Food Simple
December is not the month to reinvent your nutrition.
Keep your weekdays simple and predictable.
Eat the same breakfast.
Eat the same lunch.
Keep your snacks consistent.
Save the flexible meals for actual holiday events.
This approach keeps your energy stable and prevents the random grazing that adds up quickly this time of year.
Boring on normal days. Flexible on holiday days.
It works.
5. Never Two Bad Days in a Row
Everyone slips.
Everyone misses a workout.
Everyone has an off day with food.
That is not the problem.
The problem is when one day turns into two or three.
Follow the Never Twice rule:
Never two bad days in a row.
Never two missed workouts in a row.
Never two days of overeating in a row.
Slip once. Reset. Move forward.
This one rule keeps you from losing momentum and prevents the “I will start in January” spiral.
6. Stay Plugged Into Community
Most people around you check out in December.
If you try to do this alone, you will get pulled into the same pattern.
Lean into your fitness community.
Stay plugged into people who are staying focused.
Show up to workouts.
Follow others who motivate you.
Stay around those who remind you of your goals.
Community creates accountability.
Accountability builds momentum.
Momentum builds results.
Final Thoughts: Make This December Different
You can lose 5 to 10 pounds this December.
You can enter January ahead instead of starting over.
Do these six things:
Stay connected to your WHY.
Stay consistent most days.
Move more.
Simplify your food.
Avoid two bad days in a row.
Stay plugged into a community.
And if you want extra support or a simple plan to follow, comment December and I will send you my free Holiday Survival Guide.
