Why Men Over 40 Need Strength Training More Than Ever

Christian Midlife fitness Coach

I started coaching in 1998 when I was getting my Master’s Degree so I have heard all the questions come my way.

Having help people look and fee 10 years younger with our Get You In Shape Coaching program since 2006, it comes down to a few simple things.

1. People need a plan.

2. People need a coach to help hold them accountable to following that plan.

We would love to help you look and feel 10 Years Younger!

Men in Midlife Need Strength Training, Too

If you’re a man in your 40s, 50s, or beyond, it’s time to stop thinking of strength training as something reserved for bodybuilders or younger guys.

It’s actually one of the smartest things you can do for your long-term health, vitality, and independence.

Starting around age 30, your testosterone levels begin to decline — about 1% per year. That might not seem like much, but over time, it can lead to:

  • Increased belly fat

  • Loss of muscle mass

  • Fatigue and low energy

  • Decreased libido

  • Mood changes or mild depression

  • Brain fog or slower thinking

Sound familiar? You’re not alone.

The Natural Fix: Strength Training

The good news is that strength training helps fight back — naturally.

“Strength training boosts testosterone levels naturally,” says Dr. Shawn Arent, professor of exercise science at the University of South Carolina. “It helps men maintain muscle mass, bone density, and overall vitality as they age.”

And it’s not just about testosterone.

Regular strength training also supports:

  • 🔥 Metabolism and fat loss

  • 🧠 Mental sharpness and cognitive function

  • 💪 Muscle strength and joint support

  • ❤️ Blood sugar control and heart health

  • Confidence and motivation

Even just two resistance workouts per week can begin to reverse muscle loss, boost energy, and help you feel more in control of your body again.

Longevity expert Dr. Peter Attia says,
“There is no drug that can do for you what strength training does.”

What About Testosterone Levels?

If you’re concerned about symptoms of low testosterone, it’s worth a conversation with your doctor.
A simple blood test can tell you where you stand, and your provider can recommend options, which may include:

  • Strength training and regular physical activity

  • Better sleep

  • Stress management

  • Nutrition improvements

  • (If needed) medical therapies or hormone replacement

But regardless of your current levels, resistance training should be part of the plan — because it supports nearly every system in your body.

You Don’t Have to Start Big — Just Start Smart

You don’t need to hit the gym for hours or lift massive weights to see results.

We help busy men over 40 start safely and effectively, with programs designed to:

  • Build lean muscle

  • Improve joint health and flexibility

  • Fit your schedule and lifestyle

  • Keep you accountable and consistent

This is about more than muscles — it’s about feeling better, moving better, and living with purpose.

Whether you’re noticing changes in your energy, body, or motivation — or just want to feel strong again — strength training can be a powerful turning point.
