Coppell Personal Trainer Tip – Dream Big by Denzel Washington

If you are not wanting to watch the video, here are the highlights.

Compiled from a few speeches including a commencement speech at the University of Pennsylvania, this is full of great advice.

I found nothing in life is worthwhile unless you take risks. NOTHING.

I don’t want fall BACK on anything. I want to fall forward, at least I will see what I am going to hit.

Without consistency you will never finish. So do what you feel passionate about. Take chances. Don’t be afraid to fail.

1. You’ve got to take risks   1:47
Reggie Jackson struck out 2600 times in his career but people remember the home runs. Thomas Edison conducted 1000 failed experiments, I didn’t know that because 1001 was the light bulb…Fall forward. Every failed experiment is one step closer to success. You have got to take risks.

2. Fail Big- You will fail at something  2:32
You will fail at something in your life, you will lose, embarrass yourself, you will suck at something – no doubt about it. Embrace it because it is inevitable. Early in my career I auditioned for a Broadway Musical the part was perfect for me except couldn’t sing. I didn’t get the job, but I didn’t quit. I walked out to prepare for the next audition, and the next and the next, I prayed, and prayed, but I continued to fail. If you don’t fail, you are not trying. To get something you never had, you have to do something you never did.

3. Ghosts of the ideas you did not act on    4:46
Imagine you are on your death bed surrounded by the ghosts representing your unfulfilled potential, ideas you never acted on, and the talents you didn’t use. They are angry, disappointed and upset. You could have brought them to life, but they are going to the grave with you. How many ghosts will be there when your time comes?

4. What are you going to do with what you have?    6:36
Whatever your gift is, what are you going to do with what you have.

5. Failure can be the best way to figure out where you are going   7:00

Your life will never be a straight path. I began at Fordham University as pre-med, then pre-law, then journalism. I had a 1.8 GPA and the university suggested I take some time off. I went to work in my mother’s beauty shop. An older customer told me she had a prophecy that I would travel the world and speak to millions of people.

The chances you take, the people you meet, the people you love the faith that you have that is what is going to define you.

6. Never be discouraged. 9:40 Never be discouraged, never hold back and when you fall throughout life, remember this: Fall Forward.
